Grand Rapids is where it all began. In 1973, Roland and Angie Bender took a leap of faith and purchased Stenborg Shoes in downtown Grand Rapids. Although they may not have had experience in the shoe business, they brought heart, determination, and a strong commitment to serving their community. That same spirit continues to thrive in our store today.

We are proud to still call downtown Grand Rapids our home. Now, with two storefronts side by side—Benders Shoes & Clothing and Benders Gift Shop—we offer a wide variety of comfortable, high-quality shoes, casual clothing, and fun, unique gifts, many of which are made by local artisans.

Whether you are a regular customer or visiting for the first time, we want you to feel welcome the moment you step through the door. This isn’t just our workplace; it’s our home. We are incredibly grateful to be part of the Grand Rapids community for over 50 years and counting.

Our Grand Rapids location is where it all started—and today, it’s home to the largest Benders Gift Shop and our original shoe store, side by side in the heart of downtown.

We also offer a variety of purses and nice jewelry to complete your look. Next door, the gift shop is filled with fun and thoughtful items, including cozy candles, clever kitchen gadgets, Minnesota-made décor, and local treats.
